The Ending Of The Newhart Show
Contribution by Terrance Kirby
The best cameo on a television show ever was the finale of the Newhart show, which I watched on my direct TV. I know this was a few years ago, but I'll never forget how great that was.
Bob Newhart played a psychiatrist who was married to Emily played by Suzanne Pleshette. In his next show Newhart played an innkeeper named Dick Loudon and during the last episode a Japanese company purchases all of the land that is in the town. Dick refuses to sell and the Japanese company builds a golf course around his inn.
Several years pass and those who sold their property return to the inn for a reunion. All of the former residents regret leaving the town and decide that they will move back and live at Dick's inn. He becomes frustrated with them and leaves the inn for a moment to get some air. While he's standing on the front porch a golf ball hits him in the head.
Dick wakes up in a bedroom that's dark and turns on the lamp. In the bed next to him is Emily from The Bob Newhart Show. They turned the entire Newhart show into a dream. It was so great that Susanne Pleshette returned to make that surprising moment really work. I always enjoyed her humor on the original Bob Newhart Show.
